One of the biggest challenges I see during corporate and marketing video shoots is when people try to memorize their scripts. Even confident business owners and professionals can suddenly freeze the moment the camera starts rolling. That is exactly why understanding when to use a teleprompter can completely change the experience of a video shoot.

As a filmmaker, I work with a client who provides marketing services for his own clients. Part of his process is helping them prepare by writing professional scripts for each video shoot. My role is to provide the production setup, including the teleprompter, so clients can comfortably read their lines instead of trying to memorize everything.

This simple tool saves time, reduces stress, and helps the entire production run more smoothly.

When to Use a Teleprompter During a Video Shoot

A teleprompter is especially useful when the script contains important messaging that needs to be delivered clearly and accurately. This is common in:

  • Corporate videos

  • Brand message videos

  • Training videos

  • Marketing campaigns

  • Educational content

  • CEO or executive interviews

  • Promotional videos

Many people are not professional speakers, and that is completely normal. Even after practicing, it is easy to forget lines or lose focus in front of a camera. Without a teleprompter, the result is often multiple retakes, longer production times, and unnecessary pressure on the speaker.

Using a teleprompter helps people stay confident and focused while keeping the shoot efficient.

When to Use a Teleprompter for Video Production

Why Pre-Production Is the Key

From my experience, good pre-production makes a major difference when planning a teleprompter shoot.

One of the first things I always recommend is getting the script in advance. This allows me to prepare the teleprompter before the filming day instead of trying to organize everything on location.

How I Prepare My Teleprompter Setup

For most of my productions, I use my iPad Pro 11 with a teleprompter app. Once I receive the script, I upload it into the app and format it properly before the shoot starts.

This preparation helps with:

  • Faster setup time

  • Smoother filming sessions

  • Better pacing for the speaker

  • Fewer interruptions during production

  • More professional results

When everything is prepared ahead of time, clients feel more relaxed because they know they do not have to memorize every word.

When to Use a Teleprompter for Faster Productions

If your shoot schedule is tight, a teleprompter can become one of the most valuable tools on set.

I have seen shoots take much longer than expected simply because the speaker keeps restarting or forgetting lines. In many cases, a teleprompter helps reduce retakes and keeps the production moving forward efficiently.

That means:

  • Less stress for the client

  • More consistent delivery

  • Better use of production time

  • Stronger overall performance on camera

For businesses investing in professional video production, efficiency matters just as much as creativity.

Final Thoughts

Knowing when to use a teleprompter can help transform a stressful filming experience into a smooth and professional production day. From my experience, preparation is everything. Receiving the script early, setting up the teleprompter in advance, and creating a comfortable environment for the speaker all contribute to better results on camera.

Soon, I will also share another article explaining how to use a teleprompter effectively during a video shoot.
